PTOC Summer Sprint #9
SM Park
Sept 19, 2009

Another great day for Orienteering, a little warm at the start but it cooled off as the afternoon went on.

There were a total of 17 entries including 5 groups.   The race was followed by a Potluck Picnic which everyone seemed to enjoy.  (Especially the chocolate, nut, caramel, marshmallow treats)  The Chilled Avocado Soup was also a big hit.

Mike Shifman’s course was challenging at 4.2 km and included crossing the large hill 2 times. The  mowed portions of the Frisbee golf course made for interesting route choices – a direct route through tall grass or the longer route via the Frisbee fairways.   The runners encountered a few Frisbee golfers but everyone seems to respect the other’s activity.  In passing, it should be noted that a wedding party also attended, posing for photos at Control 16 as Reta attempted to finish the course.  (They asked Reta if she was playing capture the flag)   Among the Men Mike Eglinski finished 1st followed by Fritz Menninger, and Matt Barrett.  Among the women Nancy Neuburger was 1st, followed by Cate Barrett and Mary Jones.  Among the 5 groups the Golden Girls were 1st , followed by the Go Roe Roes, and the Gogols.

Thanks to course setter Mike Shifman who also picked up controls and served as starter, Reta Roe for registration, Dick and Nancy Neuburger for vetting, and the Barretts for organizing and making up the Sprint Series spreadsheet.  Thanks to all for helping with the clean up of the Shelter area after the picnic.
