Footprints

In memory of Jane Betros
by Bob Lane

Some take a solitary path as they walk through this life,
While others share the journey with a husband or a wife,
And children too may join them with their baby steps so small,
Until maturing, confident, they step out strong and tall.

Some others, precious few, will make a wider trail to see.
They do so in the shadows, as they labor quietly--
And generous, their talents use, and plant a fertile seed
To gather others to their cause as toward the goal they lead.

Our Jane has been the latter type, for she has made her mark
As dozens, even hundreds, walk the trails throughout the park,
And others travel purposely-- with map in hand they run,
Scarce knowing that their activity was by our Jane begun.

Jane may have started out with footsteps on a common way,
But common as it might have been, her legacy today
Has made a mark on all of us. We come to celebrate--
In fond remembrance of Jane-- whose path is wide and straight.
